Important Changes for TASLCON:

Due to 2020 bringing a pandemic but also much needed awareness of systemic racism in our country and the cry for change, we are adjusting our plans to answer the call.

First, our annual conference will be a 1 day "summit-style" virtual conference on Saturday, September 26, 2020. We feel that this is in the best interest and safety of all attendees and presenters.

Second, we feel this is no ordinary year and therefore, no ordinary conference will do. It has become clear that there are very specific areas in which we as librarians and as an organization need to focus. Our conference theme is "Turn the Page," and we feel that it's important to answer the call to meet the needs and challenges of today and going forward, therefore our focus is three-fold:

  1. educate ourselves and explore anti-racist practices not only in our schools but as a professional organization
  2. what we as school librarians can do to rise to meet the needs of students during COVID-19 distance learning
  3. advocate for school libraries in our schools, communities, and state

Each session will align with at least one of those areas of focus.

Finally, our annual business meeting and awards will take place during our Virtual Happy Hour, on Friday, September 25th. Following these, we will be joined by a very special guest. Stay tuned! More details to come!
